Instagram's feed doesn't play .gif files — convert the cropped GIF to MP4 before posting. Your framing carries over.

Any area, every frame
This GIF cropper keeps exactly the part of an animation you want and drops the rest. Drag the box, pull a corner, or type X, Y, width and height when the numbers need to be exact. The same crop is applied to every frame, so the motion, the speed and the loop stay just as they were.
Everything runs in your browser. Your GIF is never uploaded, which keeps it private and makes the GIF cropper quick even on big files: you can crop GIF files up to 100 MB. Need the whole animation smaller instead? Try the GIF Resizer.
How it works
Drop a .gif onto the GIF cropper above, tap Choose GIF, or paste one with Ctrl+V. Files up to 100 MB work on desktop and phone.
Drag the crop box, pull a corner, or type exact pixels. Lock a ratio such as 1:1, or pick a platform size like Discord emoji.
The live preview plays at the original speed. Click Crop GIF, then Download GIF. Nothing is added to the file.
Platform sizes
To crop GIF files for a platform, pick a size and the crop box snaps to its shape. The GIF cropper scales your selection to the exact pixels and warns you when the file is over the upload limit.

Half of Discord's limit. Short loops on a plain background fit easily; busy GIFs may need 64 colors.
A 16:9 crop fills the desktop timeline; a square takes more of a phone screen. Profile headers on X don't animate.
The feed doesn't play .gif files directly — convert the cropped GIF to MP4 before posting. Your framing carries over.
Platforms change their rules from time to time. If an upload fails, check that platform's help page for the latest limits.
Why it's different
The GIF cropper runs entirely in your browser. No upload, no server copy, nothing to delete afterwards.
The GIF cropper writes each frame back with its original delay, so a four-second GIF is still four seconds long.
A GIF that loops forever keeps looping forever; one set to play three times still plays three times.
Scaling uses premultiplied alpha, so transparent emoji never pick up dark or white halos.
The GIF cropper works in a background thread, so the page stays smooth. Output goes up to 4096 × 4096 pixels.
Open the GIF cropper, crop, download. No account, no logo on your animation and no pop-ups in the way.
Under the hood
A good GIF cropper should handle a quick visual crop and an exact one equally well, and never break an optimized GIF.
Small sizes
A few habits make GIF cropper emoji presets look sharp, even at tiny sizes.
Crop tight around the face or object. Empty space turns into wasted pixels once the GIF shrinks to emoji size.
Captions and fine lines vanish at 128 pixels. Crop them out, or use a bigger size such as a Discord sticker.
Over the limit? Open Output options and try 64 colors. Cartoons barely change; photos may band a little.
FAQ
Quick answers about the GIF cropper and cropping animated GIFs. Didn't find yours? Email support@gifcropper.com.
Yes, animated GIFs are what this GIF cropper is built for. Every frame is cropped to the same area, and the frame count, each frame's delay and the loop setting carry over unchanged.
Normally, no. A crop without resizing keeps the original pixels, and when the cropped area fits in a GIF palette the colors are copied exactly. Quality only changes when a crop is scaled to a platform size, because new in-between colors have to be fitted into a palette again.
No. The download contains only your animation: no logo, no text, no "made with" frame, and no paid plan to remove one.
Yes, the GIF cropper accepts files up to 100 MB. Your own device does the work, so a long, high-resolution GIF may take a few seconds. Output can be up to 4096 × 4096 pixels.
No account, email or login is needed to use the GIF cropper. Open the page, drop in a GIF and download the result.
Yes. It works in Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Android. Tap Choose GIF, drag the box with your finger, and the cropped GIF downloads to your phone.
Discord caps emoji at 256 KB, and GIFs with many frames or colors pass that quickly. Crop tighter, choose 64 colors under Output options, or start from a shorter GIF.
Not as .gif files. The feed plays videos, so convert your GIF to MP4 before posting. Crop it to square, 4:5 or 9:16 here first and the video keeps that framing.
Usually the original was optimized to store only the pixels that change. If a tool crops those partial frames without rebuilding them, parts of the picture go missing. This GIF cropper rebuilds every full frame first, so the result plays smoothly.
